CI Life Cycle Objectives Review Update

An independent panel evaluated Release 1 of the Interactive Observatory Network (ION) at UCSD on 23-25 February 2010. The ION represents the variety of mechanisms by which end users will interact with Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) data, models and tools. After review of ION’s top-level system objectives and scope, operational concept, stakeholder vision and context, and plans for the next phase of the project, the panel concluded that:

“The CI team is to be congratulated on the significant progress made during the Inception phase and on the conduct of the risk reduction prototypes.

The Release 1 concepts, objectives, risks and requirements are well-understood and there is a credible Elaboration Phase Plan such that work should proceed on the Common Operating Infrastructure, Common Execution Environment, Data Management, and Sensing and Acquisition subsystems.”

The review panel also offered constructive suggestions for the work going forward, and gave the team valuable guidance addressing specific subsystems.
