The blue, green and red portions of this depiction of the OOI connote Marine Management, Observatory Management and User portions of the network. While the cyberinfrastructure is designed, constructed, tested and maintained by the CI Implementing Organization, (IO), the Marine Operators (RSN and CGSN) are responsible for the operations and maintenance of the installed platforms and sensors often using the installed CI. Users, external to the OOI itself, can install and operate new sensors in the network although the CI will mediate all interactions.
